Are you interested in joining the Assessment Review Board?

Calgary City Council recently made a change to the timing of the appointment cycle for the Calgary Assessment Review Board. The timing of appointments to the Board will now be aligned with the end of the complaint period, when the total number of complaints to be heard and decided by the Board is known.

Recruitment for vacancies on the Calgary ARB occurs in the new year. Details surrounding the recruitment process are generally posted on this page every January.


Requirements

Members of the Board must be 18 years of age or older and be current residents of Calgary.

In accordance with the Matters Relating to Assessment Complaints Regulation 310/2009, tax agents, assessors and employees of The City of Calgary are ineligible to be members of an Assessment Review Board.

The Board seeks candidates with a background in:

  • Real estate
  • Property management
  • Property development
  • Property appraisal
  • Assessment, or
  • Law

Additionally, previous experience with a quasi-judicial Board or administrative tribunal is considered an asset. Individuals with good analytical skills, the ability to be fair and open-minded, and a capacity to work collaboratively with the General Chair and other Board members are beneficial.
